The Platts Move To Lincoln Park
Last year, Lauren Mitrick sold Dan & Kathleen Platt their Lincoln Park single family home. After months of renovations and adding their own personal style; the Platts have settled in with their baby boy, Lennox. NR decided to stop by, see their newly designed home, and say hi.NR: Tell everyone where you moved from.D&K: We started our journey together in Lakeview, right off of Lakeshore Drive. Eventually, we made our way to Streeterville for a few years, headed to the Gold Coast for a couple more and made our way here. Every neighborhood has been amazing in its own right but there’s nothing quite like finding ‘home’.
NR: Ha! What’s this guy’s name?!D&K: That’s Irving- our silly, stubborn English Bulldog. He is named after Irving Park, the first street we lived on together.
NR: How did you meet [your Realtor] Lauren?Kathleen: Lauren and I are childhood friends from Lake Forest. We have a silly group of girlfriends that have managed to stay close after all of these years.
NR: What do you do for a living? What’s the best part of the job?Dan: I am a Product Manager at Narrative Science. My favorite part is collaborating with co-workers to build innovative technology.Kathleen: Stay at Home Mom. I am able to spend every single day with Lennox and that is something you can’t put a price on. I am forever grateful.
NR: Are you involved in projects outside of work?D&K: We are huge advocates for the dog rescue community, specifically pitbulls, that have been dealt an unfair hand and deserve a better life. Bialy’s Wellness Foundation, in particular, is an amazing organization that provides families and rescue groups the resources they need to help special needs animals live a wonderful life. We are looking forward to fostering our first rescue in the very near future.NR: What’s your favorite family activity?D&K: Our family loves to be outdoors, no matter the weather. We take advantage of anywhere we can bring both our son Lennox and our English bully, Irving. Trebes and Oz Park are two of our favorite spots. Chicago, and Lincoln Park in particular, have spectacular public places to enjoy.
NR: Favorite local restaurant in your new neighborhood and why:D&K: Local Option (1102 W. Webster). It’s the best beer bar in the city so anytime you go, there is something new to try. A lot of people may not know this, but the food is outstanding. The quesadillas will change your life.
NR: How would you describe your personal decorating style?D&K: Eclectic, Modern, Fun. We love to take risks, mix and match. But there’s a way to do it without going overboard. If we like something, we get it. It will work somewhere in the house.NR: Favorite spots to shop for home decor and what kind of things can you find there?Kathleen: Classic Remix Chicago- We use them for everything from fun furniture to eclectic wall decor. Jonathan Adler- His designs give you just the right amount of ‘crazy’. We purchased the Lampert sectional in velvet for a previous residence and it is the most luxurious, well-made piece ever. Jayson Home- Besides the gorgeous one of a a kind pieces, you can find everything from trinkets to fresh cut flowers. So nice to have it right in the neighborhood.NR: Preferred Starbucks order?Dan: Pike with room for creamKathleen: Soy Chai
NR: What is your Dream Vacation?D&K: Can we take our honeymoon again? We started in Paris, explored the streets and deserts of Dubai, and spent a week on the beach in the Maldives.
NR: Do you have a secret talent?D&K: We got nothing!
NR: Cubs or Sox?Kathleen: I am a Sox fan, born and raised. Growing up, it was not coolto be one. They have gone through some rough seasons but we have 2005, so life is good.Dan- I’m a lifelong Mets fan from Long Island. My college friends at Northwestern were all Sox fans, though, and I adopted them as my second team.
