• River North Building Profile: One River Place

    One River Place, also known as 758 N. Larrabee, is quite possibly the most “River North” building in River North.

    We’ll start where we always start, with the location. It can be noted that One River Place is situated in a neighborhood known for its galleries, nightlife, dining, and proximity to the Loop, but in this case, all those perks are secondary. This building’s most significant selling point is its riverfront plot. Not only do you have the expansive city views of many structures in the neighborhood, but you will have an unobstructed aquatic vista greeting you every morning, noon and night. River views are one thing—right-on-the-river views are on a whole different level.

    The building was constructed in the late 1920s, along with many other neighborhood structures, and was used as office space for Montgomery Ward, the catalog and later department store giant. This building has close historical ties to The Montgomery, which has been previously covered on this blog. Atop One River Place is the familiar Spirit of Progress statue, an image almost synonymous with the Ward company. The Art Deco style of architecture holds similar nostalgia, and is a truly beautiful work.
